Rich people are evil. Everyone knows that, right? Rich people are self-indulgent, self-centered, and uncharitable, right? Naturally, we make exceptions for people we know and like, but in general we’re suspicious of the wealthy.
Unfortunately, there are also lots of Bible verses that warn about wealth. But… I’m just finishing up a big remodeling project on my kitchen! I didn’t “need” new cabinets (the old ones held all our stuff just as well), but we spent all this money, which could have gone to the poor, for our own enjoyment.
Umm… what am I to do with that???
Judged by almost every standard, we’re all pretty rich. Compared to people throughout history, compared to the average person on the planet, even compared to all but a small number of our neighbors, we have a large amount of nice things. What do we do with our own wealthiness?…
