Social Studies/Science:
The second graders are studying economics.
Thank you to everyone who donated things to make our Michigan Breakfast a success. A special thank you goes to Rev. Penhallegon who reminded us that we can think about being in God’s hand every time we look at a map of our state of Michigan!
The second graders have been using solids and liquids as they finish learning about the three states of matter in science. On Thursday, the students will be tested on this unit.
Zach Seltz found an interesting project in a book called, Science In a Bottle, by Sandra Markle, in our school library. It is called Make a Fountain in a Bottle. We tried this cool activity in class and some children asked for the directions so they could try it at home. We used regular sized soda bottles and cut straws to fit. We recommend regular modeling clay instead of Playdough which we used and it didn’t hold up too well. The directions are attached. Have fun! This would be a great bathtub or wading pool activity!!
On June 2 and 3, the students will review the reproductive health materials they used in first grade. If any parent wishes to review these materials, let me know.
Language Arts:
Reading – The second graders are reading and learning about mysteries during S.S.R. time.
The children continue to learn and practice comprehension skills and strategies as we read, Jalapeno Bagels, a story from their second grade anthology.
March is Reading Month Book BINGO! Many students are participating in this extra-curricular reading program.
Spelling – Week 35 – Review of lessons 27 – 34 - the students will participate in a benchmark assessment next week.
