 Kindergarten   News
January 9, 2009

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

Attached to this note you will find a Pizza Hut Book It calendar, a volunteer availability calendar, a new snack calendar and 2 pieces of homework that your child may complete it you so choose.

On Tuesday, January 6th we will be celebrated 3 Kings Day. This is a Mexican version of our Epiphany, which follows the travels of the Wise Men to worship Jesus. We will be joined the other kindergarten class, as well as 2nd, and 4th grades for this event. I will post pictures from this event (and our Christmas party) as soon as I am able.

Next week we will be studying the author Arnold Lobel. On January 15th Wild Swan Theater will be at our school to present the play “Owl’s Winter”. The following day we will have an Arnold Lobel Day together with the kindergarten-2nd grade classes. At the end of January a Lego group will be coming to St. Paul to gives us hands on experience building and creating Legos. More on this as the day approaches.

Friday, January 16th marks the end of the 2nd quarter of school. Wow! We are halfway done already. I will be assessing your children over the next week and preparing their report card to send to you. There is no parent/teacher conference scheduled for the second quarter. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me and we can make arrangements to meet.

We are in desperate need of Mystery Readers for the next few months of school. The dates available are January 22, February 5, 12, 19, March 5, 19, & 26. If you (or a special person to your child) are able to help us please sign up on our schedule outside the classroom. If you are unable to come in to sign up I just send me an email and I will pencil you in.

The kindergarten classes will be singing at St. PaulLutheranChurch on Sunday, February 8th. This will be at the Earhart (school) site. The service begins at 9:15 a.m. After the service the kindergarten – 2nd grade teachers will be leading the Bible study time by offering a “Seeds of Faith” talk. Each of us has chosen a faith issue that may or may not be difficult for you to share with your child. The 4 subjects will be Prayer, Sharing a Blessing, Memorizing Scripture, and Conflict Resolution. We prayer that you will be able to join us on that day.

Memory for 1/9/09. The Ninth Commandment and meaning: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

January 5, 2008

Thank you for all the generous gifts that I received over Christmas. They are all very much appreciated. I have been very blessed to have such nice families to work with.

Welcome back from an excellent vacation. Hopefully everyone had an opportunity to get caught up with some fun and relaxing with family and friends. I am looking forward to the New Year with the third graders. We still have so many new things to learn yet this year.

Our star student for this week will be Emily. Please keep her family in your prayers.

Keep working on those multiplication facts, we will continue to be working on them in math for several months. We will also be writing everything in cursive within the next couple weeks.

God bless you and your family this New Year ahead of us!

In Christ,

Lori Lewis

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,

       I will fear no evil,

Students and Parents: Here is a list of the science classroom procedures:

1.  Arrive to class on time
2.  Once in the classroom, please sit down and wait for instructions.
3.  Classroom supplies:  pencil and or blue or black pen, lined loose leaf paper, graph paper, color pencils, textbook
4.  Raise hands when desiring to respond or have a question
5.  Always have the previous days work completed and ready to grade

Middle School Science Presentations
During the course of each semester, the middle school students will be presenting small science demonstrations before their peers.  Many books on science experiments are available at the library and at book stores.  You can also get science experiments off the internet (www.kidzone.ws/science/index.htm;  www.hunkinsexperiments.com; )  There are MANY other sites that you can explore.  Students should practice their experiment at home before presenting to the class.  Girls and boys need to explain what is happening during the experiment.
When selecting a demonstration, I like to use the KISS method - Keep It Simple  Silly.  The best experiments are the ones that can easily be explained yet make a good scientific point.  During the course of each semester, the middle school students will have the opportunity to make their presentation.  There will be a note coming home next week with your childs assigned presentation date.
