Our star student this week will be Lindsey. A thank you goes out to Morgen for sharing with our class about her life last week. Please keep these two families in your prayers this week.
This past week we have been working with jump ropes and hula-hoops in our physical education class. These are fun activities that they could practice at home, and also a great way to get some good exercise.
I have the following parents signed up to drive for the field trip to GreenfieldVillage on Friday: Buerkel, Ehrman, Glenn, Heissenbuettel, Helberg, Kieft, Runstadler, Specht, and Theisen. We will be leaving school at 8:45 a.m. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriate for the weather and has on good walking shoes. They will also need a cold lunch packed for that day.
Just a reminder to bring in the party supplies in by November 25, 2008, if you signed up to bring material.
A special day is coming up for one of our classmates. Alexandra will be baptized on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the 6:30 p.m. service at the Liberty site. She would love to have everyone there to celebrate this wonderful occasion.
We received several “Flat Stanley” adventures already this school year. He has traveled to New York, London, Ireland, and Chicago.
God bless you and your family with love and laughter.
In Christ,
Lori Lewis

Dear Parents,
I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away. If you have any donations for the Thanksgiving Feast that needed to be sent in early they can be brought in to our classroom at any time.
Well if Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks we know that Christmas is right around the corner. The children have begun working on their Christmas service already. This year we are going to have a Posada. It is a Mexican tradition in which the people of the village re-enact Mary and Joseph’s travels to Bethlehem. The literal translation of posada is “inn”. The service will be held on Sunday, December 14th, at 2:00 p.m., at ConcordiaUniversity’s Chapel of the Holy Trinity. All the children are expected to attend. You are more than welcome to invite any family or friends to the service. More details will follow as we approach the date.
A fun activity we have in our classroom is the Mystery Box. I put something in the box and the children must ask questions to determine the contents. It usually takes us a few days to discover the object. So far we have had sand, a stuffed penguin, an apple, a tie, a stuffed rabbit, and play money, in the box. The children are using great thinking skills to discover the mysterious contents.

We had an awesome week!! It was National Young Readers Week and we had several guest speakers come in for a visit. We were visited by Rick Leach from Michigan Football, Coach Limback and two players from Concordia, and a Woman's Basketball player from Concordia. It was so much fun. We learned a lot especially about setting goals. Coach Limback and the players helped us begin our goal setting and we will be doing more as the days go on! On Monday we will be having a grammar and math test which I think we are all ready for! Have a great weekend and I hope to see you all next week!!

Greetings:
It was so great to meet with all of you last week at conferences. Thanks for taking the time to meet with me.
Remember that a biography book report is due November 25th. This week we will continue to read Frindle, which we are enjoying a lot! Students will be able to use the AR points from the test, but since it is a class book, it does not count as an independent reading book.
The state capital and Historical Museum field trip is on Wednesday, November 19th. We will leave before 9:30 a.m. and return by 3 p.m.. Don’t forget to pack a lunch and drink for your child.
On Wednesday, November 26, we will celebrate Thanksgiving with a traditional Thanksgiving feast. I am asking each student to bring an original dish to share, a cloth napkin, and a tin plate (aluminum pie plates work great!) I will use spoons from the kitchen. See the attached sheet for more information.
Chapel Offering: Books for Bethany
Offerings for November and December will go to Bethany Lutheran School in Detroit. Bethany is one of the remaining Lutheran schools in Detroit. They are trying to update their library holdings.
Middle School has a suggestion board in the hallway of possible books needed to donate to Bethany. Please check the board for suggestions. Please remember, anything St. Paul will not put in its library will not be given to Bethany. Check with Mrs. Cassar if you are unsure.
You may take a card off the board in the middle school hallway to purchase or bring in to the collection.

Middle School Science Presentations
During the course of each semester, the middle school students will be presenting small science demonstrations before their peers. Many books on science experiments are available at the library and at book stores. You can also get science experiments off the internet (www.kidzone.ws/science/index.htm; www.hunkinsexperiments.com; ) There are MANY other sites that you can explore. Students should practice their experiment at home before presenting to the class. Girls and boys need to explain what is happening during the experiment.
When selecting a demonstration, I like to use the KISS method - Keep It Simple Silly. The best experiments are the ones that can easily be explained yet make a good scientific point. During the course of each semester, the middle school students will have the opportunity to make their presentation. There will be a note coming home next week with your childs assigned presentation date.
